Militant Group Attacks Churches In Nigeria

26 Dec

A Nigerian gang have struck again- this time attacking two churches in the North of the country.

The Islamic group, known as Boko Haram gunned down the churches early on Tuesday morning. It is reported that at least 6 Christians were slaughtered as a result.

This is yet another attack on the Christian community this year. Boko Haram have been carrying out massacres in Northern Nigeria in a bid to impose sharia law on the state.

A series of killings also took place on Christmas day in central and Northern Nigeria last year, where around 44 people died.

The state continues to grieve while these militants run riot in the country, targeting innocent Christians.

Has Christmas Lost Its Meaning?

20 Dec

Only a few more days until Christmas!

Are you excited?

It seems that the festive spirit has captured a lot of people. Whether you walk, drive, or run your errands by public transport it’s not hard to miss fairy lights sprawled all over people’s homes and people in Santa hats.

Not to mention the Christmas parties! Colleges, universities, workplaces and churches have all held their events by now in anticipation for one of the most important dates on the Christian calendar.

But why are people in such a good mood for 25th? Is it because Jesus Christ was born to the virgin Mary? Or is it because it is a national holiday across many countries in the world and an excuse to spend your work pay or student loan- what’s left of it- on gifts?

Arguably, society today are generally more concerned with the festivities and fun Christmas bring- not that there is anything wrong with enjoying the period. The problem though, is that it appears that people have forgotten its message. Christmas should be important not only to people of the Christian faith, but to society as a whole.

Please remember why we as brothers and sisters celebrate this day.

Matthew 1:23: Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (KJV)

The 2013 Bible Challenge

16 Dec

In Wales, Archbishop Dr. Barry Morgan has empowered Christians to read the whole Bible in 2013 as a New Year’s resolution.

How much of the Bible have you read? How often do you read it? Because of the latest technology, a lot of us have a Bible app downloaded to iPhones or Android handsets.

As impossible as this seems at first thought, it is entirely doable. After all, there are 365 days in a year and 66 books in the Bible (39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament).

Set yourself a goal for the new year. Dr Morgan suggests taking 20 minutes out of your day to day life to read the Bible. Maybe on your train journey, between classes, when you get bored of studying and need a break or even before bed are good times to read a few pages in the Holy Book. Let us all be encouraged!

The Number of Atheists in The UK Rises, As Christians Fall

15 Dec

It has been revealed in figures from the 2011 Census that the number of people who identify themselves as Atheists has risen by over 6 million.

The number of admitted Christians in England and Wales has fallen dramatically in the past decade by 4 million. According to Religion News Service reports, the figures of self proclaiming Christians stood at 33 million last year.

This alarming news should concern our brothers and sisters in Christ, especially in the UK where there has been such a serious decline.
